Retail Clerk – Seasonal, Part-Time

The retail clerk is responsible for promoting the sale of products to customers. This will involve customer service, product restocking, and showroom appearance.

SALARY RANGE: $16.00 – $26.00 per hour.   This is a part time, non-exempt, hourly position.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Greet and provide a welcoming environment for customers
  • Perform opening and closing duties according to provided checklists
  • Ring up point of sale transactions
  • Answer incoming calls and route to appropriate department
  • Maintain showroom appearance, including outdoor furnishings and barbecues (dusting, cleaning, vacuuming, sweeping, sanitizing) .  This includes awareness of the appearance of all product displays, straightening and reporting to Sales Manager when maintenance and repairs are needed.
  • Product restocking
  • Product pricing
  • Receive customer payments via telephone
  • Sales Team Support
  • Special work-related projects as needed.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service, even in challenging situations.
  • Accurate Cash/Payment Handling Skills
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to work with limited supervision, with a high degree of autonomy and judgment to complete frequent and varied tasks
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment when routing calls and giving information to callers.
  • Ability to use computers. phone system and office equipment
  • Ability to learn and use proprietary software program
  • Ability to constantly assess the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous retail knowledge and experience

Working conditions

This position requires weekend work and overtime during busy retail periods such as summer and holidays. This position requires working at our retail showroom.  The retail showroom includes an indoor showroom, outdoor patio and storage facility.   Environmental conditions may include occasionally working outdoors where there may be exposure to low temperatures, high temperatures, and precipitation (rain, ice, snow) and wind.

Physical requirements

  • Ability to move objects up to 50lbs occasionally, 25lbs regularly in all directions.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to occasionally ascend and descend ladders and stairs.
  • Constantly repeat motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Constantly assess the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned.
  • Ability to walk on varied surfaces.
