About Olympic Valley Fire Department

General Manager

LOCATION

Olympic Valley is located five miles from the north shore of beautiful Lake Tahoe along State Highway 89 and hosted the 1960 Winter Olympic Games. We’re about eight miles south of Truckee, 40 minutes southwest of Reno, and 100 miles northeast of Sacramento. Olympic Valley is home to world-class skiing, and the Lake Tahoe area offers an abundance of year-round outdoor recreational activities.

THE DISTRICT

The Olympic Valley Public Service District is an independent Special District located in Olympic Valley in eastern Placer County, California. Incorporated in 1964, the District provides water, sewer collection, municipal solid waste services, fire protection, and emergency medical services to approximately one thousand customers.

The District has 29 employees and is governed by a five-member Board of Directors. The District fulfills its mission through the work of three departments – Administration, Operations, and the Olympic Valley Fire Department.

THE JOB

The General Manager is appointed by and reports to the elected five-member Board of Directors. The GM is the Chief Executive Officer and has full charge and control of all District activities with the power to employ and discharge all employees, department heads and assistants, and consultants other than the District Board Secretary (who is appointed by the Board of Directors) and prescribe their duties and fix their compensation subject to adopted resolutions, ordinances, policies, and contracts. The General Manager provides leadership in all District activities and plans, including long-range planning, budgeting, and financial oversight.

The result of the General Manager and the Board of Directors executing their responsibilities at a high level will be that the District’s performance, quality, and service will be what most people expect in a well-run business. This position is exempt, and the General Manager serves “at will” for the Board of Directors.
