Achieve Tahoe, a non-profit which leads the way in providing adaptive sports and outdoor recreation for people with disabilities and their families, seeks a dynamic leader to join the management team in the position of Development Director.

Based at Alpine Meadows Resort in North Lake Tahoe, CA, Achieve Tahoe serves over 700 individuals annually. A team of committed and experienced professionals leads over 250 active and dedicated volunteers. By joining this experienced team, a Development Director will capitalize on Achieve Tahoe’s mission and financial success by expanding current fundraising efforts and building a culture of philanthropy to take the organization to a new level.

About the Position

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Development Director is responsible for the leadership, strategic direction, management, execution and evaluation of all fund development campaigns, events and activities of Achieve Tahoe. Primary duties include:

  • Strategically updating, managing, executing, evaluating and reporting on Achieve Tahoe’ annual Development Plan and fundraising budget,
  • Systematically identifying, cultivating, soliciting, stewarding and acknowledging individual, corporate and foundation donors,
  • Planning, implementing and overseeing all signature fundraising events; soliciting and managing fundraising event sponsors, prizes and ticket sales,
  • Creating, planning and managing fundraising campaigns such as Annual Giving Campaigns, a Planned Giving Program and a Major Gifts Campaign,
  • Overseeing the marketing, branding and communications for the organization, utilizing techniques of marketing, public relations, direct mail, internet and social media solicitation,
  • Maintaining an accurate database of individual donor, foundation and related information resources for use to support all development campaigns,
  • Managing a grants program to research, submit, monitor and report on foundation, corporate and government grants,
  • Managing and evaluating the development department and its systems, budget resources and pro- bono service providers,
  • Collaborating closely with the administrative department, program department and appropriate committees of the Board of Directors,
  • Providing ongoing fundraising training and support for board members, staff and volunteers,
  • Supervising support staff and volunteers,
  • Representing Achieve Tahoe in a positive and professional manner,
  • Completing other duties as assigned by the Executive Director, which may include executive correspondence, outreach, public relations, marketing, social media and website management.

Requirements for the Development Director include: an undergraduate degree in nonprofit management, business administration or the equivalent, (advanced degree preferred); and, at least five years of experience formulating and executing successful, comprehensive fundraising programs within a collaborative and consistent team process, or equivalent.

The ideal Development Director will have a track record of managing relationships with donors and leadership in implementing the methodologies and best practices of philanthropy. The Development Director will possess the knowledge and passion for the work of the organization and have the ability to both directly and passionately translate the organization’s mission and program delivery into fundraising initiatives that garner financial support. It is essential that the Development Director has the ability to utilize database software and other online tools; must be able to outreach to, engage, gain the respect and cooperation of, and communicate effectively and professionally with both internal and external constituents such as corporate and foundation executives, highly visible civic, philanthropic and business leaders, individual donors, Board members, program participants, staff and volunteers.

An outgoing personality with excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong strategic and operational leadership skills; a vision and passion for growing the organization; excellent team building skills; personal initiative and a strong work ethic are expected, yet the work environment is relaxed, friendly and fun. Some domestic travel is required.

Compensation includes a competitive base salary commensurate with education and experience along with health insurance and other benefits.
