Ski Patrol Specialist is responsible for overseeing special duties as assigned, acts as the senior patroller in absence of management during medical/guest situations that occur.

This position ensures that guest service functions are addressed prior to patrol supervisory staff arriving. Additional responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • First to handle difficult employee situations as this position is part of the ski patrol chain of command
  •  Supervising and promoting guest safety • Assisting injured guests on the mountain and administering first aid
  • Transporting injured guests off the mountain using a toboggan or supporting air lift operations
  • Organizing sweeps at the end of the day to ensure that all guests are safely off the mountain
  • Transporting and setting up mountain safety equipment
  • Transporting supplies and heavy equipment to areas of need, on skis or snowboard
  • Avalanche control including safely transporting and placing explosives on the mountain and stabilizing snow pack and cornice edges on skis
  • Driving snowmobiles to various areas of the mountain, as needed
  •  Enforcement of the Skier Responsibility Code and Resort Policies
  • Proficient with chairlift and Gondola evacuation

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Three (3) years of Northstar patrol experience
  • Must possess a current California Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification OR National Ski Patrol Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) required. National registry EMT accepted.
  • Must be an advanced/expert level skier/snowboarder, capable of skiing all types of terrain under all weather conditions and pass a PSIA level 8 ski test.
  • Resort Certified in Bloodbourne Pathogens training program, Hepatitis B Vaccination. Resort Certification for any used equipment.
  • Must have excellent guest service skills
  • Must uphold Vailresorts policies and values at all times.
  • Must be able to lead small teams.
  • Must successfully pass back ground check.
  • Must be available to work holidays and weekends.
  •  Must have the ability to lead a team during emergency situations
  • Must have specific areas of expertise that may include knowledge of Northstar boundaries, infrastructure, training, accident investigation and knowledge of Health and Safety objectives.
